Desiree Braxton – Nominee, MITC 2021 Hero Award
Desiree is a senior behavior therapist in the School Partnership Program in Connecticut. The student she supports continued learning remotely when others returned to in-person learning. Desiree created opportunities for him to participate with the rest of the class. She met with the student’s Special Ed teacher multiple times to obtain materials and to make sure that she was incorporating his goals. She worked with the family and the clinical supervisor to utilize the student’s program for reducing challenging behavior remotely. Desiree advocated for the student to participate in activities where he would have access to his typical peers, even though the school did not offer many opportunities.
