Aspire supports neurodiverse children and adults as they discover their passions, unlock potential, and thrive. That work is made possible by employees who show up each day with care, consistency, and a commitment to the people they support. The employee spotlight series highlights team members whose work brings that mission to life.

Meet Linda Henderson, director of adult services in Connecticut. She leads residential services across the state, supporting adults in building independence, stability, and meaningful connection in their everyday lives.

Linda has been with Aspire for nearly 18 years, and her growth here has been anything but small. She started as a direct support professional, supporting people in their homes where routines, relationships, and responsibilities all intersect. It’s the kind of work that teaches you to show up consistently, read the room, and build trust in ways that can’t be rushed.

We sat down with Linda to hear more about her journey.

What inspired you to pursue the career you’re in?

“I’ve always had a passion for supporting and encouraging people to learn, grow, and accomplish their wants and dreams.”

How have you grown since joining Aspire?

“I am learning and growing every day. The experience I’ve built has carried forward into leadership, from managing one staffed residence to several, then into a program director role and now my current role. Each step has deepened my understanding of the work and the people who make it possible.”

What’s a moment from your time at Aspire that has stayed with you?

“Recently, I visited a home and hadn’t seen one of the women who lives there in a few weeks. As soon as she saw me, she ran over, gave me a big hug, and told me she missed me. She stayed by my side, just hugging me. It was so heartwarming to feel how much she cares and to know she feels how much I care for her.”

What’s the most valuable lesson you’ve learned?

“One of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned is that this work is mutual. I hope I’ve had as much of an impact on their lives as they’ve had on mine.”

What’s a part of your journey people might be surprised by?

“Before Aspire, I worked at a safe house for abused and neglected children through DCF. At the same time, I was pursuing a career in criminal justice, with the goal of becoming a counselor supporting inmates in accessing education and programs. After earning my associate’s degree, I decided to reroute my career to human services.”

From direct support to director, Linda has spent nearly 18 years learning, growing, and showing up for the people who need her most. And by her own account, they’ve done the same for her.
