In the Aspire Day Options cooking club, the kitchen is more than just a place to prepare food—it’s where skills are built, friendships are formed, and confidence grows.

It all started four years ago with just a small group of participants and one class. No one could’ve guessed how quickly the cooking club would take off, sparking the interests of dozens of people eager to learn new skills and try their hand in the kitchen. What began as a simple session has now become one of the most anticipated parts of the Day Options program.

What makes this program so special is the sense of accomplishment and camaraderie it fosters. Addie loves being part of the group, saying, “It’s so much fun to read the recipes, help out with the prep, and of course, taste everything we make!” Davon feels the same way, adding, “I really enjoy helping people who don’t know how to cook.”

Each class kicks off with a short YouTube video featuring the 10 Kitchen Hygiene Golden Rules, emphasizing the importance of food safety and proper kitchen etiquette. This foundational lesson ensures that participants feel equipped and confident as they dive into the cooking process. From there, it’s time to get cooking!

Whether flipping the perfect gourmet grilled cheese, rolling out meatballs, or making a comforting chicken pot pie from scratch, everyone plays a role in bringing each dish to life. Beyond the delicious meals, the real goal is to help participants feel comfortable reading and following recipes so they can recreate dishes at home with family or friends. Take Davon, for example—he’s already putting his skills to work by making his signature seafood macaroni and cheese at home.

For Addie, Davon, and many others, the cooking club has become a space to embrace their love of food, learn new techniques, and experience the joy of creating something from scratch.
