Addie and Davon are proving that small actions can have a big impact on their community. Since joining Aspire’s Day Options program—Addie in February 2023 and Davon in July 2024—they have embraced opportunities to volunteer, develop new skills, and give back in ways that are both meaningful and fulfilling. Through their work, they’re creating positive change for themselves and others.  

Volunteering is just one aspect of Aspire’s community-based day supports. These supports are built around choice, offering people the freedom to explore different activities and opportunities that align with their unique interests and goals. For Addie and Davon, that means choosing to dedicate their time to causes that matter to them.  

For Addie, that means rolling up her sleeves at Fresh Start Furnishings, where she helps organize and tag home goods for families getting settled into new spaces. But what she loves most is putting together cleaning baskets. “It just feels nice helping people out,” she says with a smile. 

Davon sees volunteering as a way to show kindness. “I like helping people that don’t have what I have.” His favorite volunteer site? The Humane Society. Without any pets at home, the time he gets to spend with the shelter dogs is extra special, giving them the love and attention they need while they wait for their forever families.  

Here’s a glimpse into the impactful work they’re doing: 

• Welcome 1 Shelter: Helping to create an inviting space for those experiencing homelessness. 

• Fresh Start Furnishings: Organizing, cleaning, and tagging home goods so families can build a comfortable living space. 

• Tabitha’s House: Sorting and arranging clothing, shoes, and toys to ensure families have a smooth shopping experience.  

• Meals on Wheels: Bringing hot, nutritious meals and friendly conversation to seniors and individuals with limited mobility.  

Through their volunteer work, they’re not just lending a hand—they’re making connections with the world around them, proving that incredible things can happen when people have opportunities to pursue what matters to them.
