Women living in a staffed residence in Middlefield are back to enjoying their home inside and out, thanks to work funded in part by a grant from the Community Foundation of Middlesex County (CFMC).
The $3,000 award from CFMC helped replace an outdoor deck at a residence for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities operated by Aspire.
Aspire Living & Learning Program Director, Mike Hall, reports, “The old deck was the original wood, and it was starting to rot. The women living there couldn’t use it. Now they can sit outside again and enjoy the deer and wildlife that come into the yard. They’ve missed that.”
The home is operated by Aspire to provide everyday supports to the women who live there. These services include opportunities to learn independent skills, develop relationships, and maintain mental and physical health. The grant and the replacement of the deck enhance all these aims by providing a safe and pleasant space for residents to relax, socialize, and enjoy the benefits of being outside.
“The support of CFMC means the world to the people we serve and to Aspire. Being included in the community is central to Aspire’s mission, and we are incredibly grateful to CFMC for this grant,” says Lou Giramma, CEO.
This CFMC grant was made possible by the generosity of the Herb and Ellen Patterson Memorial Fund.
