The employee spotlight series celebrates team members from across the organization and the impact they make.

Meet Michelle Cutting, Aspire’s new director of adult services in Massachusetts. In this role, she oversees residential and community-based day services that support adults across the state in building independence, stability, and meaningful connection.

Nearly 30 years ago, Michelle began her journey at Aspire as a direct support professional in residential services. In those early days, she worked side by side with people in their homes, assisting with everyday tasks, addressing challenges as they came up, and making sure people felt safe and respected where they lived.

Her path soon led her to day services, where she took on the roles of job coach and employment specialist. There, her focus shifted to meaningful employment and helping people discover what was possible for their future. She supported people in building job readiness skills, growing in confidence, and preparing for roles that reflected their strengths and interests.

Over time, Michelle moved into a variety of leadership roles across the organization. The hands-on experience she gained early in her career never left her. It’s continued to shape the way she builds teams and thinks about services today. Each chapter informed the next, layering perspective, skill, and deep respect for the people Aspire supports.

What led you to this line of work?

“I have always found joy in work that was directly connected to supporting people in one way or another. Having a family member who was born with a disability shaped my perspective. I witnessed the ways people with disabilities were “othered” and dismissed or deemed to be less capable simply because of a difference.

My original plan after high school was to become an elementary school teacher with a focus on special education. However, life redirected that path, and I found myself at Aspire. What began as an unexpected turn became a meaningful opportunity that allowed me to pursue my passion for supporting individuals and advocating for their full inclusion and success.”

What impact do you hope to make in your new role?

“I hope to build on the incredible work that Aspire already does. I am committed to continuing to streamline processes and systems so they meaningfully support the work of direct support professionals, managers, and program directors, ensuring that their time and energy can remain focused on the individuals they serve.

I firmly believe that leadership is not defined by title or position. We all have the ability to lead from wherever we are. When we embrace that idea, we can create ripple effects that extend far beyond our individual reach and collectively strengthen the impact of our organization.”

Michelle’s nearly three-decade career at Aspire reflects what is possible here: growth across roles, leadership built from experience, and long-term opportunity within one organization.
